Despite the metalcore pedigree of members former bands (Shadows Fall, Overcast and Killswitch Engage), Seemless is a rolling 70’s guitar rock machine. The band ups the anti with bombastic riffage that gives a fresh vibe to their take on the blues-influenced rock. Each track on their self-titled debut is fueled by thick guitar riffage and smooth vocal work courtesy of ex-Killswitch Engage singer Jesse David. The ex-metal-screamer never sounded better rounding out his bark with a crooning yowl that hints of a southern-tinged rock and roll swagger. A bastard son of Soundgarden and Fu Manchu with an ability to stretch out the occasional jam into something more ambitious. Seemless has a steady hard rocker, “Lay My Burden Down” that is getting regular play on Headbanger’s Ball where they recently made a guest appearance, so the masses should be waking up soon enough.
Singer Jesse David is confronted on his drug abuse…
Seemless is a return to the rock. Did you feel it’s something you were away from or lost touch with?
No, I have never sang for a “rock” band in my life so if anything it’s a beginning for me.
Who represents the ideal rock formula to you?
Soundgarden, Led Zepplin, Porcupine tree, The Quill, Queens of the stone age, & Cactus, to name a few.
Who embodies the ideal rock and roll attitude?
I think the ideal rock attitude has yet to be attained by one single person. For me it involves: Heart & soul, integrity & really not losing touch with where you came from. Rock n roll is music for the people by the people as cheesy as that sounds. I think Rock bands loose sight of that when they get all wrapped up in the fame, fortune & materialism.
The musical climate in which Seemless is coming from is very metalcore as of late. Is it a weird vantage point for you guys to see the seeds you planted in other bands now coming fully into their own popularity?
Yeah we really appreciate the support we have gotten from the “metal core” or “metal” community. Massive respect to all our friends & peers who have supported us. However we really have a much wider vision for the band & we want break out of that. Yeah we were in that “scene” but we never considered ourselves limited to it. We are musicians not bound by scenes or genres, we want to just play music call it what you like. I am very happy for the bands we were involved with or we helped inspire good for them IF they are truly happy.
You’ve got a stoner rock vibe in those Sabbathy rhythms. Have you ever deseeded some mexi on a vinyl cover of Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid”?
No, we are not stoners, although thanks for the Sabbath reference. No I haven’t deseeded on a Paranoid album. If anything if I was going to smoke I would not have to do any deseeding Ha.
What album have you ever deseeded weed upon?
When I was a teenager I used Bad Brains vinyl.
You must agree, deseeding weed on a CD case is a joke. But those work well enough for chopping lines, eh?
Wouldn’t know, are you speaking form experience? Are you down with nose candy? That’s some sleazy stuff.
Do drug questions make you uncomfortable?
No, why do I seem PARANOID? Hey are you uncomfortable, why should I be uncomfortable...are you tracing this..who do you REALLY work for pal. All I have to do is make a phone call & I will have you wacked!!!... I mean - uhhh next question.
Are you on drugs right now?
Alright guy this interview is over...jokes, I kid. I just had some soy milk though - good stuff!
If you ever played in San Diego, would you bring us some drugs from Worcestor?
Worcester, talk about deseeding...HA you would have better luck over there from what I hear about you crazy Californians...Why so many drug questions? We are not even a stoner rock band. What are your motives for this interview? Thanks I guess. (all smiles).
