HomeMusicReview: Gongzilla Gongzilla “East Village Sessions” (Lolo Records) This album finds the supergroup of players known as Gongzilla recording on one of the best collections of analog equipment. Disavowing programming, synthesizers, sampling and digital editing the group recorded at Manhattan’s Dangerous Studios because “Each piece of their [analog] equipment is chosen as the best of its time and meticulously maintained.” The core of this group is a trio of ex-Gong musicians (Hansford Rowe, bass; Bon Lozaga, guitar; Benoît Moerlen) along with drummer Gar Husband (Allan Holdsworth, Level 42, Billy Cobham). Adding a wide spectrum of percussion sounds is Phil Kester (Pointless Orchestra). Another collaborator here is the fretless guitar maestro from Screaming Headless Torsos, David Fiuczynski. The result of this world-class talent and a premier recording facility is a monster jazz/fusion album.
