Review: Supremium

(Smile Records)

Supremium is a band that brings back memories of The Connells for no reason in particular, except for the jangly, peppy vibe that dominates “Tales.”  Anyhow, the album gets off to a strong start with songs like “If Not For You” and “I Am Alive,” but fades a bit in the second half with weaker, drippier offerings like “Lucky.”  When all’s said and done, “Tales” is a respectable disc from a group of veteran musicians who are relatively new as a band.  Bruce Witkin’s sharp, expressive vocals are a real strong point for Supremium, but the band really fits together and plays focused, tight songs.  Good work.
