Review: The Promise

The Promise
““Believer””
(Indecision Records)

Straight-edge hardcore is definitely something not everyone can get a handle on.  The Promise, obviously named to signify their deep beliefs about lifestyle and their dedication to that lifestyle is another thrashing hardcore straight-edge band.  “Believer” is filled with in your face punishing lyrics and a very fast-paced chug-chug attitude that proves they mean business.  In one of the more noticeable tracks “The Unwanted” the song opens up with the lines “This whole world dead in a haze. Plighted people, enslaved countries. Dulled to stay alive, afraid to live with sober eyes.”  I enjoy hardcore bands of this nature because they hold themselves to a higher moral standard than the rest of the world.  I’d go to a straight-edge show before church any day.
