Review: Zombie Apocalypse

Zombie Apocalypse
“This is a Spark of Life”
(Indecision Records)

11 minutes and 42 seconds is all it takes for Zombie Apocalypse to tell you why everything in war is wrong. If everything could be broken down into 11 minutes and 42 seconds with as much clarity as ZA has, the world would be a lot easier to live in. The 11 minutes and 42 seconds covers 11 tracks. This
isn’t some three song EP. This is 11 fucking tracks in 11 minutes and 42 seconds. And they even throw samples in. The samples fit better than any techno sample I have ever heard.

ZA has about 1.2 seconds to fit a sample into its songs, but they do and it sounds perfect. After listening to this I feel like an asshole being an American. I’ve never been a Bush supporter, but ZA makes me want to move to Sweden. There is no blatant attack on the various wars we are fighting against the “evil doers,” but ZA’s comparison of zombies and soldiers strikes a chord in me that makes more sense than the need for oil. ZA leaves their liner notes with the sentence, “Prepare for war, motherfucker.” Just keep listening to this EP and you’ll be ready. Make sure you’re on the right side.
