This is Otep.
Lead by the charismatic singer, poet, illustrator, author and activist Otep Shamaya.
The Los Angeles based band has been crushing on a meld of nu-gothic-heavy metal with subtle rap flows since 2000.
Otep jump started their rise to fame by catching the eye of Sharon Osbourne early in their career. After witnessing one of their incendiary live performances, the band was tapped to play OzzFest… their ninth show!
They have recently departed with longtime label Victory Records and have decided that their seventh studio album will be released on Napalm Records.
“Generation Doom” will drop in April of 2016 and was produced by Howard Benson, who has previously worked with such acts as Motorhead, Papa Roach, Three Days Grace, Flyleaf, P.O.D. and Halestorm.
To excite the masses waiting in anticipation for the new album, a single track has been released called, ‘In Cold Blood’.
Singer Shamaya comments: “There are nights I think of you. Suffering in the sweet amnesia of nostalgia. Then I remember the cold loneliness of being by your side and I hear my own voice whispering in the night, ‘There’s something wrong with me for thinking something’s right with you. In cold blood. In cold blood.’ This bit of writing created the song ‘In Cold Blood’. It was really hard to share something so private and personal but I’m glad I did.”
