Richard Metzger’s Book of Lies: The Disinformation Guide to Magick and the Occult is a collection of essays written by modern day occultists for the pop culture reader. I expected to find directions for spell casting and candle burning when I opened this book, but instead there was a bunch of articles and texts that deal in some way or another with magick, mysticism, and/or the occult. There are excerpts that range from Nazi secret societies that were based on the occult to interviews with founder of the Church of Satan, Anton Lavey. There are texts that analyze Aleister Crowley and William S. Burroughs from a magickal perspective. Based off of this books title I thought that there would be more information about what is and what isn’t true about magick and the occult. A large, soft-covered book that is around 350 pages thick, The Disinformation Guide to Magick and the Occult is sure to provide a lengthy and extensive read for all of those who have some degree of interest in magick and the occult.
